Your Personal Accident Plan vs SOCSO LINDUNG 24 JAM: What’s the Difference?

Both protect you from accidents—but they work differently

Many people assume that their own Personal Accident (PA) plan and SOCSO’s LINDUNG 24 JAM are the same. They are not. They can complement each other, but their purpose, benefit structure and claims process are different.

1. Your own PA plan

A private PA policy is purchased from an insurer. In the illustrated Allianz example, the plan provides:

  • A specified sum insured of RM310,000
  • Lump-sum payment based on the covered injury or disability schedule
  • Medical expenses covered under the attached medical card, subject to its policy terms
  • Additional accident-related benefits, such as accidental hospitalisation benefits, subject to the policy schedule

The key idea: a private PA plan is designed around the benefits and limits stated in your policy contract.

2. SOCSO LINDUNG 24 JAM

LINDUNG 24 JAM is PERKESO’s Non-Employment Injury Scheme. It provides eligible employees with protection for certain accidents outside working hours and not directly related to their employment. PERKESO describes the scheme as including 24-hour protection and medical treatment financed by PERKESO.

Benefits are provided according to the applicable statutory schedule. Depending on the claim and assessment, support may include medical treatment, rehabilitation and periodic benefits—not necessarily the same lump sum shown in a private PA policy.

Example from the infographic

The illustration compares a private PA lump-sum benefit for loss of a leg with PERKESO’s monthly benefit examples for below-knee and above-knee amputation. The numbers cannot be compared as if they were identical products: one is a private policy benefit structure, while the other follows PERKESO rules and assessment.

Simple takeaway

  • Private PA: personal insurance, contract-based benefits and policy limits
  • LINDUNG 24 JAM: social protection, statutory benefits and PERKESO assessment
  • Private PA may provide a larger lump sum for a covered injury
  • LINDUNG 24 JAM may provide medical, rehabilitation and periodic support under the scheme
  • Having one does not automatically mean you have the other

The strongest protection is often not “PA versus SOCSO”—it is understanding what each one covers and where the gaps are.

Important update

Contribution rules and rates can change. As of the current PERKESO information, local-worker participation in LINDUNG 24 JAM is voluntary. Always check the latest official PERKESO schedule and your own policy contract before relying on any figure in an infographic.
